Visas for Visiting the US
Note: All links on this page open to new pages.
If you are from one of the 27 countries currently participating in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), you may not need a visa if you have a "machine readable passport." See the link for the full list of VWP counties and other details. [Loosely described, the VWP countries include most EU nations, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia.]
There are special, relatively lenient visa conditions for those from Canada, Mexico and Bermuda.
All others should consult one or more of the following sites that have useful information:
travel.state.gov/visa/temp/temp_1305.html, or
www.unitedstatesvisas.gov/,
www.unitedstatesvisas.gov/visapolicy/ , and
www.unitedstatesvisas.gov/obtainingvisa/.
Alternatively, one can consult the nearest U. S. Embassy or Consulate, but getting an appointment may not be easy. The websites of all embassies and consulates are in this link.
Due to recent changes made by the U.S. Government in response to 9/11, it may be more time-consuming to obtain a valid nonimmigrant entry visa to the U.S. to attend the conference. International visitors who need a visa are encouraged to apply at your earliest possible convenience. Before applying, make certain that your passport is valid and that it will not expire within six months of your arrival in the U.S.
If you are staying in the residence halls and need to provide a precise address and contact person for the visa application, here is the information to use:
