How do you calculate seeds per square foot from the sample?

Step 1:

Area of 12 cores sampled in square feet = (12 cores) x (2.75/2 in.)2 x 3.1416 (the value of pi) x (1 ft2 / 144 in2) = .495 ft2

Step 2:

Seeds in 12 cores = (number of seeds / 5 lbs of soil) x (lbs of soil from 12 cores)

Step 3:

Seeds / square foot = seeds in 12 cores / area of 12 cores in square feet.
