Fruits as Edible Ornamentals

by Marvin Pritts

Why have such ornamental plants been relegated to the invisible corners of our green world? One reason is that although much has been written about growing fruiting plants, the emphasis has been on fruit production. It is vastly more efficient to grow fruiting plants in monotonous, uniform rows if the objective is fruit production.

However, if your objective is displaying interesting ornamentals with the added benefit of grazing and gathering, then fruiting plants can be a component of the landscape.
